“Imma roll the dice. Rolling rock on ice. Used to be a role model.” Track 6 of TRAP. ROLL started as an instrumental track, a production scape that I was using to experiment with some different ideas. If you can hear it, during the choruses a high pitched whine/squealing noise is mixed at a low-level in the background. I thought the dissonance gave the track a slightly eerie vibe. Post-songwriting I thought it helped with the underlying message that even though the narrator thinks they’re on a ROLL, their reality doesn’t match up. The changing root key exists for a similar reason, trying to show an unstable foundation.
